pCareTV is TVRC's comprehensive hardware, software and network platform that sits "under the hood" to support the interactive patient education, entertainment and communication services. Most patients and staff are not aware of the pCareTV platform as its major physical elements are typically not visible in patient rooms.

iCareTV services, content and applications visually and audibly deliver the patient experience. iCareTV also has easy-to-use interfaces for use by technical, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff. Patient education orders can be issued and tracked. Patient surveys can be developed, issued and tracked. Content can be added, deleted and updated.

pCareTV is designed to support initial adoption of interactive patient services by hospitals with limited budgets and then support growth of services and features as budgets and plans permit. pCareTV is also designed to minimize maintenance and support requirements for hospital information and facilities services organizations while adhering to commonly used software interface standards to simplify integration requirements. Finally, pCareTV is network independent and designed to support the conversion to digital television services.

The combination of the pCareTV platform and iCareTV delivers 4 key benefits to the healthcare customer organization:

• Patient education, entertainment and communication services can be tracked, evaluated, monitored and reported. Where appropriate, patient entertainment services can be billed, payments collected and services authorized, creating a new revenue stream (or underwriting platform and operating costs) for the hospital.
• Personalized patient education can be scheduled, delivered, tracked and reported. Patient-facing staff can order patient education "prescriptions" using simple web-based tools.
• Existing healthcare information networks systems, practices and policies can be accommodated with standards based software interfaces and healthcare savvy security methods - minimizing information services resources and requirements. Network bandwidth, security and contention issues can be addressed by pCareTV's network agnostic design.
• Patient satisfaction scores related to entertainment and communication offerings can be actively managed.

pCareTV consists of the following elements:

• pCareTV Core provides content management and storage, schedules content delivery and provides basic activity reporting. A voice control system is provided that allows patients or staff to request education and entertainment services from a standard hospital phone extension.
• pCareTV Path provides infrastructure neutral network support for narrowband and broadband RF (cable) and broadband LAN/VLAN networks.
• pCareTV Share provides the interfaces and functionality to add, edit and customize content, link with existing healthcare information services and generate detailed reports.
• pCareTV Subscribe is an outsourced patient entertainment and education billing, provisioning and payment system, complete with a staffed 24x7x365 patient services call center.

iCareTV elements include:

• iCareTV ByPhone uses the hospital telephone extension and custom voice prompts to interactively present education and entertainment selections on the patient television.
• iCareTV Personal delivers a personalized patient media experience using the patient pillow speaker as a remote control for navigating television channels plus on-screen interactive menus and applications.
• iCareTV Education delivers personalized patient education content from multiple content sources, including content provided by TVRC or from the existing hospital library, with tracking, reporting and patient comprehension survey options.
• iCareTV Music delivers a wide range of digital audio entertainment options with the hospital in control of the content offerings.
• iCareTV Movies delivers the latest Hollywood titles, edited for hospital environments and refreshed every six weeks. Pediatric and multi-lingual titles are available.
• iCareTV Web delivers the web to the bedside. Browsing, email and chat are supported based on rules and content filtering established by the hospital. Wireless keyboards are supported.
• iCareTV Play delivers computer games suitable for all ages without requiring console game devices in each patient room.
